Trying to Survive the Rising Cost of Prescription Drugs
Is it just me, or does it seem like drug prices are on the rise again?
Ok, I know it’s not just me, these things can actually be quantified.
And they have been: last year a group of over 600 drugs had an average rate increase of 5.2%.
The prior year they increased by 7.7%. There is an entire list of drug price increases here, in case you want to take a look.
Prices do have a natural tendency to rise; it’s called “inflation”. But often our incomes don’t keep increasing at the same pace. In light of this, some households try to cut back on discretionary spending.
However, when it comes to prescription drugs, we don’t have a choice on what we must buy.
We do have a choice, however, on where to buy these drugs, and at Complete Health Benefit Solutions we are constantly turning over stones to uncover the best resources to lower drug costs.
As you probably know, we have landed upon GoodRx as the most consistently helpful website for gaining access to prescription discounts. To date, it’s our #1 pick and will remain there unless and until we find something that consistently beats it.
A tip to using GoodRx most effectively:
Don’t use your insurance card when you’re purchasing these drugs. This site is for those times when your insurance doesn’t cover the particular drug.
Make sure you type in your zip code where prompted. That will give you the local price that you will expect to pay at the given pharmacies shown.
Also, ask your doctor about generics. You may pay only 1/10th the price for generic. (Don’t make this decision yourself. Your doctor may have a good reason why he or she is insisting on the name brand drug for you.)
We don’t have any relationships with companies like GoodRx so there’s never any conflict of interest. We just want you to be happy! (Oh, and “tell your friends” of course!)
All the best!
